CDARC Pastfaces2 1970 to 1980 (approximately)This second series of photographs came from another album found during the Colleridge Shack clearance. This albun appears to cover the period from approximately 1970 to around 1980 when the club re-located to its present home at Coleridge Community College. My thanks to John G4BAO who has kindly offered help identifying some of the photographs (Dec 2019). If you hover your mouse over the photographs their reference number is shown by way of title and alt codes to suit as many browsers as possible. The first 10 photographs were anoted SSB Field Day 1973. No other information is known, if you can add anything mail me. First, John Wilson G3UUT second, Keith Few G8JDQ operating at Castle Camps at the 1977 Pye Telecom Group Club 144 Mhz open contest at Castle Camps (info G4BAO). Collecting the windbreaks, Keith G8JDQ (left), Mike Brogan G8JHE (right), as above (info G4BAO) The next five are at Colleridge, This is the first time the shack was kitted out at Colleridge, refurbishment was carried out three more time before the decision to close the shack was taken in 2018. Can you spot a young slim Geoff Wilkin? Can you name the others for me? I think next nine might be 1979?, certainly the September contest at Castle Camps. Perhaps a different call was used (G3PYE?), I can find no trace of an entry from G2XV. The mast belonged to the Pye group, probably company owned, atop is what looks like an 8 over 8 skeleton slot aerial and lower down a vertical folded dipole. Notice that some of the people are having fun flying kites, a great place to do this. Chris Rycroft G4FES with the hard job of mast winding. John provided the following information: "The yellow Datsun belonged to Ron Whitby G8MEI, with Pete G8GLB in the picture, this was a G3PYE weekend at Castle Camps, perhaps 1979. This was the famous weekend when we all struggled all morning in the heat setting up, Mike G8JHE turned up at lunchtime and said "that guy rope's not straight" Never forget that!" L-R Chris G4FES, Ian Smith G8RYL and possibly Charlie Riley G4??? college friend of Chris from Pye. (info G4BAO) As confirmed by the man himself, John Worsnop G4BAO, looks to be a rotator controller? A Raynet setup at County Hall, at a guess many members of CDARC were also members of Raynet then (and now of course). The next two are of a very young (and quite handsome) John Worsnop G4BAO (info G4BAO). County Hall with the Pye mast in the car park, taken from Castle Mound. With thanks to Steve Platt, I think at the Air Cadets meeting place, which was prior to Colleridge, the car park with Brian Davy G4TRO, Martin Cranage G8OFA, Steve Platt G4WSZ(now) and Paul Melbourn G8GML identifiable. G3PYE operation from the Ditton Works, possibly a 70 Mhz contest. G4BAO holding the mast, with Hams Broere PA0NOS (back to camera). David Wilcox G2FKS is shown, he held several committee posts at CDARC, looks to be at the ATC meeting place Newmarket road. Need to identify the others, if you can help. |
