Wimpole Fete and Picnic 2008

Another really enjoyable day out, not hot and dry all day.  Many thanks to the Wimpole Estates office, Tessa in particular, and the hard working members of St Andrews Church who along with their friends made the Fete a great success.  Attendance was well up on last year and the stalls quickly ran out of goodies.  My favorite is the homemade cake stall.

All the usual attractions of the Wimpole Estate are free to enjoy, even the very reasonable car park fee can be offset in the cafeteria.  These and the Fete make this a, I was reminded of the word by a lady on the cream tea stall, quintessentially English summer Sunday.  Just need the beer tent now, as I reminded the vicar when he came over for a chat.

Some 30 club members and guests joined us throughout the day, many bringing picnics.  Belinda and Steve brought their usual boot load and ate the lot as well.  We did have a short wave Morse station (the microphone remaining in the shack for some reason), this time running on big batteries so that the sounds of the wonderful Waterbeach Brass Band were not spoilt by the generator.  Visitors to our group were well up on previous years, we must make sure that our publicity notices and banner are put up along with more people to answer questions
